Outside the Box – Juliann Talkington

On Tuesday evening September 2, the Panama City Renaissance School Parent Committee launched a campaign called “Atoms, Algebra and Adverbs” in an effort to overcome the perception that the school is a language institute with a few academics thrown-in.

According to David Kozan, PCRS Parent Committee Chair, “Few people know the school offers advanced math, science, English and history as part of its curriculum”. Through the Atoms, Algebra and Adverbs effort David says he hopes to have an opportunity to talk to people about the program where children start learning basic Algebra in kindergarten and about atoms and the periodic table in first grade.
Kelley Caspary, the Parent Committee Vice Chair, says she wants to talk about the integrated approach to learning. “It is comforting to know my daughter will be reading, writing and spelling in English well above grade level at the same time she is mastering Mandarin Chinese and Spanish. I also love the fact that the school has a strong history focus that begins in first grade.”
As part of the awareness effort, parents will be sporting t-shirts with the slogan and distributing business cards with information about the school. If you haven’t had a chance to visit yet, we would love to see you (even if you don’t have kids). Call the office on 215-8712 to schedule an appointment.

Don’t forget registration for 2009-2010, starts September 16!
