Students learn about science, music and culture at China Coast Restaurant

Outside the Box – Deborah Durbin On February 26, the L10, L20, L30 and L60 Chinese classes met at a local restaurant to have a science and culture lesson. Ms. Xia, Ms. Zhang, and Ms Xia’s husband taught the students how sound and vibration are connected. The entire lesson was conducted completely in Mandarin Chinese. The students listened to a musical performance on traditional Chinese instruments and sang songs to celebrate the Chinese New Year. Afterward, the students and families were invited to have dinner in the restaurant and the students were encouraged to order in Chinese! Friends visit the Panama City Renaissance School on President’s Day

Outside the Box – Juliann Talkington President’s Day was a special day at the Panama City Renaissance School. In addition to in-class activities to celebrate the US Presidents, the school also welcomed visitors for the Spring Semester Bring a Friend to School Day. March Enrichment and Academic Support Program happenings

Outside the Box – Juliann Talkington and Michelle Spradley There are many fun, educational programs scheduled for the Enrichment program this month. The students will make Rain Sticks, special decorated sticks that are used in Indigenous Central and South American cultures to bring rain. They are also used to make music. In addition, the kids will make dog toys for the humane society and masks for a masquerade show. Thank you Ms. Kozan for donating the balls and jump ropes for the  physical education activities. Preschool students learn about community service

Outside the Box – Juliann Talkington Are you looking for fun, educational programs for your 10 – 13 year old this summer? if so, the Panama City Renaissance School may have a program for your child. NOTE: These programs are open to the Panama City community. A child does not need to attend the PCRS during the school year to participate in the summer program. Computer Programming (10:15 – 1:45, June 6 – 10) – Learn how to program using MIcrosoft Visual Basic. Class limited to 15 students. Required skills: Proficiency with addition, subtraction, multiplication and division as well as order of operations. Typing. Basic word processing and Internet proficiency. Required equipment: laptop computerTeacher: Sheng (biography)Cost: $100 Competition Math (10: 15 – 1:45,  June 13 – 17) –  Preparation for math competitions including Math Counts and International Math Olympiad. Focus on problem solving skills. One on one assessment and coaching. Class limited to 15 students.
