Outside the Box – Christy Johnson

Renascence School International families returned on July 8 from an exciting and eventful summer field trip to China! This cultural immersion, culture tour of China began in Beijing where families visited a Chinese puppet theatre and a traditional Chinese Hutong. They also visited famous places such as Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City. Some other experiences they had in and around Beijing were the Olympic Stadiums and the Great Wall at Mutianyu. Descending from the wall, some took one-man toboggans! While in Beijing, the students had a special class with a Chinese teacher and students and also saw a show of Children Acrobats.

From Beijing, families flew to Xi’an where they explored the ancient City Wall, Bell Tower and Drum Tower and toured the Muslim Quarter and an authentic historic scholar’s home and garden. The students had a special class while in Xi’an where they learned about the Chinese dynasties and went on a Chinese-style field trip to the Shaanxi Provincial Museum. Before leaving Xi’an, families visited the amazing Terra Cotta Soldiers, which has been called the “8th Wonder of the World”.

The final destination was Guangzhou. Some of the highlights of this City were the Yat Sen Memorial Hall , the Temple of the Six Banyan Trees and Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street Market. This trip was an adventure of a lifetime and was a big success! Next year the Renascence School International Orange County is planning another family field trip adventure to Equador!
