When personal cellphones became the norm, K–12 leaders had to decide what would be allowed in school. These decisions started as a patchwork of individual teacher, administrator or district decisions. Over time, however, it became clear there was a need for agreed-upon parameters. Whether it was a complete ban on cellphones or limitations during class time, schools had to create systems in the best interest of teaching and learning.
